Megakaryoblastic Crisis of Chronic Myelogenons Leukemia -Report of 2 Cases-

Abstract
|
|
|
The megakaryoblastic crisis of chronic myelogenous leukemia is very rarely resorted.
We experienced two cases showing blastic crisis of chronic myelogenous
leukemia(CML). Both of them revealed Philadelphia chromosome. One Patient was 38
yearn old male and the other patient was 50 years old female. Both patients revealed
marked leukocytosis by numerous blasts and megakaryocytes and marked
thrombocytosis. with atypical platelets. The blasts were compatible with megakaryoblasts
by morphology, cytochemical studios and ultrastructural cytochemistry. They revealed
myeloblast-like morphology on Wright stain and positive reaction for PAS and α
-naphthyl acetate esterase stain, Platelet peroxidase (PPO) was detected around the
nucleus and in the endoplasmic reticulum. The bone marrow aspirates revealed markedly
increased megakaryocytes and megakaryoblasts and a moderate fibrosis.
To our knowledge, this is the first report of megakaryoblastic crisis of CML in Korea.
